6 Days Trekking Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you are met by the WeWild Travel team and transferred to your lodge in Arusha or Moshi. After check-in, you meet your climbing manager and mountain guide for a full briefing and equipment check. This ensures you are fully prepared for the trek. The rest of the evening is spent relaxing at the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay are included.
After breakfast, you drive to Marangu Gate for registration with Kilimanjaro National Park authorities. Your trek begins through dense montane rainforest filled with rich biodiversity, including colobus monkeys and exotic birds. The trail is scenic and shaded as you gradually ascend. After about 4–5 hours of hiking, you arrive at Mandara Hut at 2,700m. Optional walk to Maundi Crater offers stunning views. Overnight in mountain huts.
You leave the rainforest and enter heath and moorland zones where vegetation becomes sparse and dramatic. Giant heathers and unique plants like lobelias and groundsels appear along the trail. As you climb higher, the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo become visible. After 6–8 hours of trekking, you reach Horombo Hut at 3,720m for overnight rest and recovery.
This important acclimatization day allows your body to adjust to altitude. You take a short hike toward Zebra Rocks and the base of Mawenzi Peak while enjoying panoramic views of Kibo. After returning, the rest of the day is spent resting, hydrating, and preparing for higher elevation. Overnight at Horombo Hut.
You ascend into the alpine desert zone, crossing the wide volcanic “Saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape is barren and dramatic, with rocky terrain and strong winds. Wildlife is rare but you may spot high-altitude birds like buzzards. After 6–8 hours, you reach Kibo Hut at 4,700m. The rest of the day is spent resting and preparing gear for summit night.
Around midnight, you begin your final ascent under headlamp light. The climb is steep and challenging as you reach Gilman’s Point, then continue along the crater rim past Stella Point to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, you descend back to Kibo for rest and continue down to Horombo Hut for overnight recovery.
After breakfast, you descend through rainforest back to Marangu Gate, where you receive your summit certificate. Your driver then transfers you to your hotel for a warm shower and celebration. This marks the end of your Kilimanjaro climb, with optional safari or Zanzibar extensions available.
