8 Days Kilimanjaro Via Lemosho Route

Overview

8 Days Kilimanjaro via Lemosho Route with WeWild Travel is one of the most scenic and highly recommended ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 meters. The Lemosho Route is known for its remote wilderness start, low traffic, and excellent acclimatization profile, making it a top choice for high summit success rates.

This journey begins on the western side of Kilimanjaro, where trekkers enter untouched rainforest rich with wildlife, birds, and dense vegetation. As the climb progresses, the landscape transforms through heath, moorland, alpine desert, and finally the arctic summit zone, offering one of the most diverse trekking experiences in the world.

With WeWild Travel, climbers are supported by professional mountain guides, experienced porters, and a dedicated logistics team ensuring safety, comfort, and proper altitude acclimatization. The 8-day itinerary includes extra time on the mountain compared to shorter routes, allowing the body to adjust gradually and improving summit success chances.

Key highlights of the Lemosho Route include the scenic Shira Plateau, Lava Tower acclimatization zone, Barranco Wall climb, and panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Trekkers stay in well-organized camps with full board meals and quality camping equipment provided throughout the journey.

The final summit push begins at midnight from Barafu Camp, leading to sunrise at Stella Point and Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the Roof of Africa. After celebrating at the summit, trekkers descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate. This route offers adventure, beauty, and one of the best Kilimanjaro experiences with WeWild Travel.

8 Days Trekking Itinerary
Arrival in Tanzania (Arusha / Moshi)
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you are welcomed by the WeWild Travel team and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. You meet your mountain guide for a full briefing, gear check, and final preparation for the trek. This day is for rest, recovery, and getting ready for the journey ahead. Overnight at hotel.
Day 1 – Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, you drive to Lemosho Gate for registration before starting your trek through untouched rainforest. The trail is quiet and scenic, with dense vegetation, birds, and possible wildlife sightings. The hike is gentle and peaceful. After 3–4 hours, you arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp) for overnight stay.
Day 2 – Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
You continue climbing through forest into heath and moorland zones. Vegetation becomes thinner and views begin to open up. You cross streams and volcanic ridges before reaching the Shira Plateau. After 5–7 hours, you arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) for overnight rest.
Day 3 – Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Today is a gradual hike across the Shira Plateau with wide panoramic views of Kilimanjaro. The terrain is open and volcanic, with fewer trees and cooler temperatures. After 4–6 hours, you reach Shira 2 Camp (3,850m), an important acclimatization stop.
Day 4 – Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)
This is an acclimatization day. You ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m) before descending to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” method helps your body adjust to altitude. The scenery shifts to alpine desert with giant senecio plants. After 6–8 hours, you arrive at Barranco Camp (3,960m).
Day 5 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
You begin by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical scramble with amazing views. After the wall, the trail continues through valleys and ridges. The hike is moderate but scenic. After 4–5 hours, you reach Karanga Camp (3,995m) for rest and acclimatization.
Day 6 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
You ascend into the alpine desert zone where the landscape becomes rocky and cold. This is a shorter but important day for rest before the summit. After 3–5 hours, you reach Barafu Camp (4,673m), the final base camp. You rest early and prepare for summit night.
Day 7 – Summit Day: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Around midnight, you begin the summit push. The climb is slow and challenging as you reach Stella Point (5,756m) and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebration, you descend to Barafu for rest and continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for overnight recovery.
Day 8 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate → Return
After breakfast, you descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificate. A WeWild Travel vehicle transfers you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi for rest and celebration, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
